The Art of Gathering

By Priya Parker

In The Art of Gathering, Priya Parker argues that the gatherings in our lives are lackluster and unproductive--which they don't have to be. We rely too much on routine and the conventions of gatherings when we should focus on distinctiveness and the people involved. At a time when coming together is more important than ever, Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play.

Drawing on her expertise as a facilitator of high-powered gatherings around the world, Parker takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn't, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings--conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp--and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience.

The result is a book that's both journey and guide, full of exciting ideas with real-world applications. The Art of Gathering will alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue--and how you host and attend them.

Attendees are required to purchase their own book and read the book prior to the dialogue. The dialogue will earn you 3 CMC or 3 MMC education points for 6 hours with the satisfactory and timely completion of a learning assessment.

Presented by Matt Booth

Tell Me Something Good

Customized for the Washington Clerks Association – Theme: Wisdom Begins in Wonder

Clerks are the steady hands and minds behind government that works. But even the most dedicated professionals can feel drained in a world full of stress and negativity.

In this fast-paced, funny, and practical session, Matt Booth brings a refreshing message: positivity isn’t just about feeling good—it’s about thinking clearly, acting wisely, and staying grounded when the pressure is on.

When negativity creeps into the workplace, it clouds judgement and stifles communication. But when you Check Your Attitude and Take Action, you create meaningful impact.

It’s not about pretending things are perfect. It’s about choosing to see what’s possible, even when it’s hard—and becoming a positive force in your office, your team, and your community.

Attendees will learn how to:

• CYA – Check Your Attitude

• Gain real-world take a ways to stay positive, communicate effectively, and achieve your goals

• How you can create impact with one small shift

If wisdom begins in wonder, then positivity is what keeps wonder alive.

This session will leave you laughing, thinking, and walking away ready to tell the world… something good.
